Katti pathiri/ Kai pathiri

Katti pathiri or kai pathiri is a type of pathiri rolled out using hand.


  • Row white rice( Pachari )-500 gm
  • Grated coconut-1/4 coconut
  • Salt: 3/4 tbs
  • Hot Water -approximately 1 cup

Instructions to prepare flour:

Either you can use ready made pathiri flour or prepare the flour very easily as follows:

Soak the the rice in water for 1 hour, then clean it properly using water(2 or 3 times). Wash out the rice, make it dry.

You can make flour with rice from flour mill or you can prepare the flour using mixer from home itself.

In a mixer grind the rice, make it very nice( pathiri flour ), remove all water from flour by heat the same in low flame. In a pan roast the flour and stir well for 6 to 7 minutes. No need to change the color of flour. just need to remove the water completely.

Boil water , Using this boiled water mix the rice powder( by adding required water) with salt,and Make a soft,non-sticky dough like “pathiri ” dough . Mix grated coconut while making dough. Set aside.

Preparing pathiri: 

Take a orange sized dough balls.

and place in a banana leaf or in a aluminium foil/ plastic cover, spread little oil on it. Roll out the ball by pressing with hand. Or you can place another leaf/ aluminium foil on the dough

and press with a plate on it using plate.

So dough will flatten easily and evenly.


Then take the pathiri from leaf and place on heated pan.

spread Cook both side by spreading oil on both side. Then only it will cook properly and turn its color to little brown. once it start to turn its color, remove from the pan.

Cook all rice ball like this .

Serve pathiri with chicken curry,  masala curry, stew etc…
