Gothamb upma or wheat upma is a healthy food and best for diets. Wheat used as crushed or broken wheat for upma. Either buy the broken wheat or crush the wheat using mixer.
For 6 persons upma recipe:
- Crushed Wheat : 250gm
- Onion (chopped finely) :1
- green chilly: 3 nos (chopped)
- Urad dal/split :1 tsp
- Ginger :½ inch (chopped finely)
- mustard :1 tsp
- Curry leaves: 1 sprig
- oil or ghee : as required for frying
- salt as required
- Water : 1/4 liter
In a pan, add 2 tbsp ghee or oil, once get hot, add 1 tsp mustard seeds, once get cracked add 1 tsp urad dal. Stir it until turn light brown. Now add add the chopped green chillies, ginger, curry leaves. After 1 minute add the finely chopped onions into it. Saute the onions till it become translucent. Add 1 tbs of salt(as needed).
Then add 2 cups(medium sized cup) water into pan (to this onion). Stir well in a medium flame. Once water get boiled add wheat into it slowly and stir it continuously. Cover the pan for 10 minutes to cook the rava. Check the consistency and sprinkle more water if needed. Switch off the flame.
Special tip: You can add grated coconut into this as last step better taste.
