kadala (Bengal Gram) thoran


  • Bengal Gram(channa) -200gm
  • Onion – 2 medium
  • Green chili -3 finely chopped
  • Turmeric powder -1 tsp
  • Chili powder – 1/2 tbsp
  • Salt : needed
  • Oil – 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds -1 tsp
  • Curry leaves- few


Soak channa(gram) for 5-6 hours. Cook 3 whistles in a pressure cooker with 1/2 tbs of salt(don’t remove the water from chana after cooking).

In a pan add two tbs of oil. once become hot, splutter the mustard seeds. Then add red chili pieces and curry leaves. Stir it well, add chopped onion and green chili pieces.

Saute until onion turns it color slightly. Then add cooked channa into pan. Add salt red chili powder, and turmeric powder. Stir it well and cook for 5 minutes.

Simple kadala thoran is ready. Serve with rice, chapato,… hot
